Nippers

Thank you to our officials (and putting the call out for more)

A huge thank you to all our wonderful Paekākāriki officials for making the carnivals possible this year, especially at Riversdale where they made up almost all the officiating crew! You guys are awesome!

We’re always on the lookout for more officials and need to provide one official for every ten kids we have in an event. If you’re a nipper parent who is keen to get involved (but maybe not as keen to get wet), we’d love to hear from you. Getting qualified as an official takes a short course and a bit of learning on the job. It is an essential role that keeps junior surf possible. Why not give it a go. Email us at admin@pslg.co.nz

Paekākāriki Junior Club Champs

Don’t forget to save the date for our Junior Club Champs on 2 March 2025! No need to enter, just show up on the day. There may even be a parents race or two.

Podium winners will be given out on the day, and go towards the overall age group winners at our prizegiving for nippers who have entered two or more carnivals over the season.

Reminder about supervision on the beach

A reminder to all our families, a parent or caregiver must be on the beach supervising their nippers before, during and after all our beach sessions (including Tuesdays). If children want to leave the water (because they are cold, injured or are done for the day), parents and caregivers need to be visible to them. Our coaches need to supervise a lot of kids and can’t leave their groups during sessions.

After sessions, kids need to take their beanies off and are then under the direct supervision of their parents/caregivers. Swimming between the flags, and ensuring a supervisor is nearby, are the best ways to keep our tamariki safe.

Oceans 25

Oceans 2025 is coming up again and we have a great crew of kids putting in extra training hours to get ready for the Mount. We’re very lucky this year to have Nic Cecioni, one of our senior athletes, helping to coach the Oceans team; thanks, Nic!

Keep an eye on our social media for updates during the competition! Good luck kids!!

Last day for the season

It has been a great season, but it’s almost getting to that time of year. Our last session this year will be Sunday 23 March.
