Paekākāriki Surf Lifeguards Inc. are a registered charity in New Zealand and are run by a Management Committee and several sub-committees.
President
Nat Perkins
Nat has been a part of the club for many years, as a lifeguard, nipper parent, and more recently as a long serving official. Nat’s close relationship with the Paekākāriki Community is an asset to our club.
Management Committee Members 2023/24
Matt Warren – Chair
Matt joined the club and became a lifeguard in 1985. He loves coaching and officiating and seeing younger members of the club develop into great lifeguards and community members. Matt is a proud Dad, with his 4 children also Lifeguarding and competing for Paekākāriki. Matt is leading our new building project.
Ben Strombom – Director Lifesaving and IRB Coordinator
An active lifeguard and event lifeguard, Ben brings his practical expertise to the role. Ben actively competes in IRBs and coaches our new crew and drivers.
Dave Jones – Director of Sport
Dave joined the club in 1983 and has competed for over 40 years. He is our Head Coach for Senior Craft athletes. Dave is an excellent competitor, winning 5 gold medals at the 2017 World Masters Games. Dave provides excellent coaching and trains great athletes. Outside of the club, Dave works for the Police, he is a great asset to the club.
Sandra Bednarek – Treasurer
Sandra joined Paekākāriki when her 2 daughters got involved in Nippers. Sandra coached and managed Junior Surf for many years providing expertise and experience. She has also managed our club shop and merchandising for many years.
Henry Curtis – Junior Surf Coordinator
Henry joined the club along with his 3 children. He leads the coordination of our junior surf and little nippers programme. He qualified as a lifeguard in 2023. He’s also a committee member for Raumati Raptors Swimming Club.
Mickey Jones – Youth Captain & General Committee Member
Mickey is an active athlete, patrol captain and lifeguard in the club. She is the committee’s connection to our youth membership.
Shane Radovanovich – Boat Captain
Rado has been part of surf life saving for over 40 years, competing in boats for most of that time. He’s also done a stint as craft coach.
Monique Lepionka – General Committee Member
Monique, her husband and three children are all active members of the surf club.
Emma Norris – Funding Coordinator
Emma joined Paekākāriki in 2012, when her 3 children started Nippers. Emma joined the Committee in 2017, as the funding and sponsorship Coordinator. She has been a dedicated Nipper coach over the years, coming from a Sport Management background. Emma is present at all competitions, managing teams over the past 6 seasons. 2023 she qualified as a lifeguard.
Karen Simpson-Warren – New Building Fundraising Chair
Karen has been involved with the club since her kids first joined about 16 years ago and has held the role of Secretary a couple of times spanning 11 years. All four kids have been through the Nipper and Lifeguard programmes and it’s been a big part of family life. Karen is keen to see the new building up and running and is working with a good team to try to make this happen.
James Imrie

Lynette Imrie – General Committee Member
Lynnie got involved when her 3 children joined – and whilst they’ve moved on to bigger things (like Olympic kayaking!) Lynnie still remains a presence at the club.
Sarah Sherriff – General Committee Member
Sarah joined the club in 2015, along with her 2 girls. She’s learned the skills along with them and has coached in the Nipper programme and recently became a lifeguard.
