We had two squads competing. Two of our open women’s crews the “OG mums” and “the other mums” combined for one squad, while our masters’ men coerced a couple of the club’s former rowers to join them and compete as an open men’s squad. This was the 50th year anniversary of the event and is held bi-annually over the new years period, racing from Batemans Bay (NSW) to Eden over 7 days.
The squads committed to the event around January last year, and continued training after nationals through winter to be prepared for the event. A quick tally of training miles from march to December roughly came in at 1700km’s in the boat, around 900 km’s on ergs plus around 80 gym/strength sessions.
The teams stayed in a mix of surf clubs, motor homes, holiday houses and camping as the race moved down the coast. A special thanks to Broulee SLSC, Narooma SLSC,Mussel Charity Rowers, for the use of Boats/oars/club houses. To families and supporters, and to the Bass committee for their help putting this trip together.
