Surf Boats are the largest craft on the water. Four rowers and one sweep (who steers the crew through the surf and back to shore) start from a standing position in the shallows then launch through the waves, round buoys at 240m or 400m, then race back through the surf to finish either in the water or with a run up the beach.
Teamwork is the name of the game!
The Paekākāriki boaties have a long history of competing and in 2025-26 had a club first with our U23 Female Leftovers composed of Alyx Honeyman, Emma Neal, Tilly Hungerford, Abbie Bognuda and sweep Steve Dickson representing NZ in the Trans-Tasman Challenge as the female development
crew.
