Nipper Update, 1 March 2014

Posted by Elyse Robert on Monday, 3 March 2014

Hi all

We have a few more days at the beach this season, all going well weather wise we will continue on Sundays until 30th March.

We are having our Nipper Club Champs on 16th March, starting at 2 pm, reserve day 23rd March.  After club champs we will have a BBQ, we will provide sossies please bring salads. Final day for pool t.b.c.

The team who went to Oceans 14 (NZ U14 Champs) all performed amazingly well in some quite big and challenging conditions. Over 850 kids participated in the event so to get past any heat was a big achievement,

We had Ishmael Perkins-Banse win a GOLD in the U14 flags, Ishy has been lucky enough to compete in 5 Oceans and win an amazing 3 golds and 2 silvers in flags.  He backed that up with a great SILVER in the U14 Beach Sprint. His final tally from Ocean events is 5 GOLDS and 4 SILVERS, great stuff Ishy!

Jack Plummer won SILVER in the U11 beach sprints and finished 5th in Flags.

Max Jones won BRONZE in the U11 board race in a very exciting finish that was a lot of fun to watch! Max also made the Surf Race final and was 11th in the Run Swim Run.

Our U14 beach relay team of Ishy, Nic Cecioni, Florrie Dixon and Brianna Norris were a gallant 4th in the Beach Relay final which was finally raced at 8 pm at night, comp started at 8 am that morning!

U14 Nic and Thomas Downs did really well in both the tube and board rescue finishing 5th in the Tube and 6th in the Board rescues.  The official team name for this pairing was the Paekakariki Xpress which when we realised we had Thomas the tank engine in it bought a chuckle to everyone, it went a bit further when a nameless wife then said the Manager (male) must then be the Fat Controller.......

Nic also finished 11th in Run Swim Run and made final of Surf Race and 11th in flags.  Thomas was also in the final of Surf Race and made semi of Board race.

Max Jones and Jack Plummer also had a great run in the U12 tube finishing an awesome 4th.

Charlotte Meyer did some amazing swims and got to the final of both the Run, Swim, Run and Surf Race she finished 10th in the RSR.

James Dyhrberg was 13th in the final of the surf race.

Danika Viskovic made final of both RSR and Surf Race and finished 13th in Surf Race, she lead the whole field around in the swim of U12 Grand Cameron (one of the final events, a huge team relay) which meant we got heaps of mentions on the live commentary booming over the beach J

Aneeka Craig and Sarah Downs both did really well in RSR making semis and also having some great board and diamond races in really big surf. Their improvement from last year at Oceans was really noticeable and impressive.

Maddie and Amelia Feaunati both finished 14th in flags and Florrie Dixon also had a great run in flags and made Board semi-final. Florrie and Charlotte made quarter finals of U14 tube rescue.

Our Paekakariki Crushers U14 board relay team of Brianna Norris, Meredith Metcalfe and Lottie Jordan had an amazing race, all making it out and around in some nasty surf.  Grace McCarthy also did really well in swim events and was a little unlucky to get hit by big sets every time she was out on a board.  Jamie Norris was our great relay specialist and also ran a fantastic big leg in the 2km beach relay, in his first venture to the Mount Jamie was a trooper and will only get better in the water.

There is a really cool video of the event on vimeo http://vimeo.com/87432384 or via Facebook, Ishy features at around 30 secs, some supporters at 3 mins and you also see Amelia primed for a flag start.

We also had some of our great officials on the beach with Richie, Nat, Yo and Teri all giving up their time for this event, thanks guys!

Oceans is really such a great event, hard work and busy but great for all involved J J J I think I have almost recovered 5 days later and I did very little!

See you at the beach soon!

Regards

Sandra Bednarek
