Nipper Update, 8 January 2014

Posted by Elyse Robert on Thursday, 9 January 2014

Hi there

Happy New Year, we hope that Santa was kind to all good Nippers and families.

A reminder that we have a Junior Surf Carnival at Riversdale on Sunday 19th January.  We know this clashes with Wellington Swim Champs and lots of other things but Lynnie will be present to help run our team on the day.  To ensure we have the appropriate equipment (boards etc) for each age group can you please let me know asap if you are intending on attending the carnival.

Our season kicks off proper with:

  • ·         Sunday January 26th, Nippers at Paekakariki Beach
  • ·         Thursday January 30th, Pool sessions at Coastlands Aquatic Centre
  • ·         Sunday February 2nd, Carnival at Paekakariki (Capital Coast Champs)
  • ·         Sunday February 9th, Carnival at Maranui
  • ·         Feb 20 to 22nd NZ U14 Champs, Mt Maunganui

So while we have no "normal" sessions occurring until the end of the month, Lynnie has very kindly offered to take some sessions at Paekakariki during the holidays, these will start at 12 noon on:

  • ·         14th January
  • ·         16th January
  • ·         21st January
  • ·         23rd January

Please note that activities will be adjusted to numbers and ages of Nippers present and how many lifeguards we have available to assist, particularly in the water. As with all surf activities these are not "drop off" sessions.  If attending please get your kids to wear their Nipper hat and high vis pink vest.

You are also reminded that Paekakariki is now patrolled 7 days a week.  We encourage our nippers to come to the beach and enjoy the water.  We allow Nippers with their 200m badges to take out the soft boards during these times but please ensure you have discussed conditions with the patrolling guards first and that they are aware you are members of the club and will be using equipment.  You must be prepared to enter the water with your child in these instances, check with the guards the best places to use the boards.

As always this is a busy time with Surf Events happening all over the country, there is a Junior Surf Carnival in Papamoa on Saturday 18thJanuary http://www.surflifesaving.org.nz/calendar/2014/january/papamoa-junior-invitational-carnival/

If interested in attending please let me know asap so we can enter you.

We have our Senior teams competing at Central Regional Champs in New Plymouth this weekend, then off to Eastern Regional Champs at Whangamata over 25-26th January, we all have Capital Coast champs at Paekakariki on 1st and 2nd Feb (Seniors on Saturday 1st Feb and Nippers on Sunday 2nd Feb).  Full on but fun!

Cheers

Sandra
