Hi there folks

Just a quick blurb with surf:

CRC:

Paekakariki SLSC took away 35 athletes and a number of whanau including our youngest member; Poppy Dickson.  CRC was held at Oakura beach.  The event was short and intense over a 24 hour period.  The sun shone momentarily and for the rest of the time, spent at the Naki, the weather was cool and overcast.  However, the weather did not deter Paekakariki SLSC placing 2nd overall in the Central region.  We were pipped at the post by Fitzroy and their land crabs.  There were 21 clubs competing from as far north as Orewa and as far east as Riversdale and Whangamata.

Special mentions - our awesome boaties and canoeists who had to row in flat conditions on Saturday (short course seemed like a very long course) and Sunday's long course was half way to Aussie. The racing has been another step for our awesome boaties to prepare for the nationals and our canoeists (Paekakariki Canooligans) used the technique of  visualising their training sessions which seemed to pay off….

E had competed back to back U16 events and then was asked to fill in for the U19 team events did so and finished each leg strongly.  Due to an injury free weekend for Baxter he was able to compete in all of his events and then compete up in Open men's.

Trent caught a 'bomb' from out the back in his swim leg, bodied surfed all the way in and this boded well for his team to win U19m taplin.

Our U16 crew competed very well in particular in the team events.  Nate placed 2nd overall in his sprints.   Hanne and Nore de Ridder (still a nipper) competed for the very first time at a senior carnival with placing's.

Open Mens were dominated by Jakey and Ims - both lads had placing's.

Overall all of our athletes competed well and strongly.  Their transitions were particularly strong and were at times the difference between gaining a place or not.   The CRC is another step in the process towards the finale competing at the nationals.

Big thanks to Lynnie/Jimmy organising accommodation and trailers and lunches.  Thank you to everyone who helped with everything else.  Special thanks to Steve, Yo, Hooky, Dennis for officiating only one of our officials had an offspring competing.   Again a huge thank you to Rado and Steveo our fabulous coaches and last but certainly not least Jo and Jan for managing our awesome girls.

Our next carnival is the ERC in a fortnight's time.  This event is a two day event and the competition calibre will be another level.  Watch this space folks.

Special mention - Kurtis and Kayla Imrie have been selected to represent NZ for kayaking at the Oceanic's held in Sydney.  Well done you two - very cool!!!

Cheers and see you at the beach

Teri
