Nipper Update, 19 September 2013

Posted by Elyse Robert on Friday, 20 September 2013

Hi all

Hope you have all have had a great winter and that this summer is a stunner! Hopefully you have received newsletters from the club at times over the winter, if not please email communications@paekakarikisurflifeguards.org.nz to get on the circulation list, if you no wish to receive Nipper info please let me know :)

This is just a quick email to fill you in on surf dates for the season.

Our first Nippers Surf session will take place on November 3rd November (first Sunday after Labour Weekend).  This will also be a registration day and your chance to pay subs and purchase or order uniform for the season. (more details on available clothing will come soon). Subs for the year are the same as last, that's $50 per Nipper but $30 for each subsequent Nipper in the same family, we also have a family membership of $100 (for parents and all kids under 22 yrs. in the same family).

Whilst our first Nippers Day is as above we are having a family day at the Club on the Sunday of our Centenary, Sunday 27th October.  This is the chance for all our Nippers (and families)to be involved in the Centenary.  We hope to make this as fun as possible for all members of the club and there is no cost to be part of the day.  Following fun on the beach we will be having a club BBQ, no set cost but donations welcomed J  We would love for as many as possible to be there on that Sunday, we will have members of the club from all parts of the world attending and we want to be able to show them how the Paekakariki club has evolved over the years and what a "normal" Sunday on the beach in Summer looks like at Paekakariki.

Trophy Recall: As part of our centenary we would like all trophies returned to the club for Labour Weekend, (you can take them back home after) please get these back to the club soon, there are Seniors training at the club most Sundays from 2 pm so that would be a great time to drop them off.

First pool session at the awesome new Coastlands Aquatic Centre is Thursday 7th November, 7 pm.

We have had some volunteers for helpers this year but always welcome more, please let us know if you can help either on the beach, the pool or in the clubrooms this season.

We have a small but awesome attending NZ Surf Lifesaving Pool Champs, in Hamilton 11th, 12th and 13th October, we will hopefully keep results updated on our Facebook page during the event.

If you or your children are now older then Nipper age (i.e. over 14 @ 1st October) your contact details have been sent onto our Club Captain, Richie Whinham, clubcaptain@paekakarikisurflifeguards.org.nz in regards to Life Guard training. These are taking place at the club on Thursday evenings.  Teri Anderson peter.teri@xtra.co.nz and 021 330 375 is the contact person for surf sports for this age group please contact her to obtain details on "Senior" trainings and to also get on her circulation lists. If you have kids in Nippers and Lifeguard age groups you will still receive emails from me as well as getting info via Teri for the older age groups.

Extra Board Training:

We will be starting some extra Board training for Nippers aged 10 years and over from Tuesday 15th October (after School Hols).

This will take place at the Pauatahanui Inlet on Tuesday evenings at 5:30. We meet in the car park on Mana Esplanade by Paremata Bridge (the car park on the other side of the road from Burger Wisconsin).

The aim of this is to give our Nippers a chance to do some paddling in flat water, we have found this is a great way to teach them correct technique.  Only Nippers 10 years and above and who have a 200m badge may attend.  (if new and not sure re 200 m badge please contact us to ascertain if suitable for your child).  As with all surf activities this is not compulsory but just a chance to help Nippers as they transition onto our Fibreglass boards.

If you are likely to attend please text Lynnie on 021 828 666.  Kids need to wear warm clothing, wetsuits and polyprops under wetsuits are best, wetsuit booties are also great. Parents, we need help with unpacking the trailer and sorting boards on arrival.  (and packing it all back up again!)

Special thanks to Lynnie, James and Rado who will make sure boards are packed on the trailer and that the trailer gets there!

Any queries please do not hesitate to contact either me or Lynnie jamesandlyn18@xtra.co.nz

Cheers

Sandra Bednarek
