CDO Update, Capital Coast, Tuesday 19 March 2013

Posted by Elyse Robert on Tuesday, 19 March 2013

Hi Everyone

First off, congrats to everyone who competed at Nationals. It was another successful event for our members and it was great to see so many of the Capital Coast Clubs represented.

A big thank you to all our supporters, helpers and other members who helped make it a great weekend (shame the surf gods were a little over zealous most of the weekend, not that I'm complaining there was surf!).

Nationals 2013

In the Masters Arena, Paekakariki clubbie, David Jones won the 40 - 49yrs category. He was 2nd in the RSR, 1st in the Surf Race and 2nd in the Ironman! A huge effort!

David was also part of the successful Paekakariki Ski Relay and Taplin teams who were 3rd in the Ski Relay and 2nd in the Taplin. David was joined by Dwight Garton and Shane Radovanovich.

Not to be outdone, Dwight managed 3rd in the 30 - 39yrs Beach Sprint. Go team!

Martin Robinson from Lyall Bay had a good day on the track too, taking out the 50 - 59yrs Beach Sprint.

And back in the water, Palmerston North club members David Pontin and John McKerras placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in their age groups for the Run Swim Run. Great work, especially considering John is in his 70's. Truly in it for life!

Lyall Bay had an outstanding event! The club finished 9th overall (ahead of some usually "heavy weight" clubs) and an honourable mention should go to Teina Stacey, Trent Luka, Jack Manners, Tom Oolders, Nico van der Wilt, James Moore, Ben Manners, Hayley Cox, Karley Maxwell, Kate Nota, Kelsey Moffat and Tori Watt. All these competitors medalled, some multiple times. Awesome work!

Paekakariki were seen on the podium with Seth Forbes taking silver in the U19 Mens Beach Flags and then being part of the silver medal U19 Men Beach Relay team, made up of Tyler Cannell, Tem Forbes and Kurtis Imrie.

Titahi Bay's usually strong Marty McDowell and Sam Blyde scored a comprehensive win in the Open Mens Double Ski, while down in the boat arena the U21 Women's Boat Crew made up of Bronagh Ryan, Georgia McLaren, Grace Goodall, Jessica Cleland and Tim Marsden (also known as Tim's Tarts) were elevated to a gold medal in the Short Course Boat race after original winners Paekakariki were disqualified on a technicality.

The full list of Nationals results are on the SLSNZ Sport page (click on 'results') and if you haven't already, be sure to check out the SLSNZ Facebook page for some amazing photos. You can order photo's direct from http://www.surf.photosales.co.nz/, please don't directly download from Facebook.

Capital Coast Championships

In the local space we wrapped up the Capital Coast Championships with the IRB Series held at Paeakakriki on Sunday 17th March.

The full list of results, and the series points are now on the web. Click here to see the results.

An email was circulated to clubs a few weeks back, however there have been a few minor changes to some of the series points.

The results on the web are the most up to date and correct version of points.

Again, well done to everyone involved, especially those that came out on top!

Patrols and Patrol Stats

The minimum patrol period finishes Easter Weekend, Sunday March 30th (with Monday April 1st optional for patrol).

Be sure to get all your patrol documentation loaded correctly onto PAM as soon as you can. If a PC form has an incident recorded on it, be sure to have an incident report form filled out and added to PAM as well.

16,415 Hours of Patrol

A huge effort from all our clubs. Keep it up!

Entertainment Book

Some of you will already know about this opportunity and may already be selling the Entertainment Book through your clubs. For those that don't attached is some information about this fundraising opportunity.

These book have been around the community for many years and have become quite easy to sell. The books have $1000's of vouchers that can be used at restaurants and entertainment venues. The books sell for around $60 depending on the area and the club gets $12 from each sale. The staff from the Entertainment book are very helpful and the process in easy. Some of our clubs are raising $400-$500 from this.

SLSNZ are selling these books online to our partners, State, BP, DHL etc, but will not move into the public space with sales. This will be left to the clubs. Club also have the option of selling these online.

If you are interested in this opportunity read the flyers attached and contact your local Entertainment book staff member (or me).
