Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year
10 more sleeps until our first Nipper session for 2013 on Sunday
27th January, our first pool session will be on
31st January.
February is always a busy month at the surf club with our first
carnival on Sunday 3rd February at Maranui, we also
are hosting the Capital Coast Champs (for all age groups) on
16th - 17th February.
Our Senior Club Champs take place on
6th February and whilst this isn't for Nippers
(Nipper club champs on 17th March) we are having a
club BBQ afterwards to which everyone is invited.
18th February marks a very special day for the
Surf Club as it was on 18th February 1913 that the
tragedy of a drowning at Paekakariki subsequently lead to the
formation of our Surf Club. The club are planning a
commemoration on that day (Monday 18th February at
6:30 p.m.), more details to follow.
We will have a team of 15 travelling to Mount Maunganui for the
NZ U14 Champs on February 21st to 24th.
Entries for this close on 1st February so I need to know of anyone
else intending on competing. To ensure we have accounted for
everyone if you are intending on going to this competition please
reply to this email ASAP,(even if you have already told me) we
don't want to miss anyone!
We also have a group of our Senior athletes going to compete in
the Aussie Nationals in April. The majority of these are the
great young lifeguards who are present at our Nipper sessions,
coaching your kids and getting into the water with them to keep
them safe. A great way to show your appreciation of these
lovely young adults and their help to our nipper programme is to
support them in their fundraising for the trip. One of their
fundraisers is a Quiz Night at Monteiths, Mana on
10th Feb. Tickets are $15 each, with teams of
4 to 6 needed. If you don't have a team we can put you in
one, if you are unable to come to the quiz but still wish to
support the team, they will happily take donations. There are
some fantastic prizes which will be auctioned off on the night.
Members of the team going to the Aussie Champs who help out at
Nippers on Sundays include: Seth, Tem, Jake, Ryan, Kurtis, Kayla,
Nicola, Tayla, Jonti, Thomas, Adam, Sophie, Trent. I know I'm
biased but they are really a great bunch who we simply couldn't do
without when it comes to helping us at Nippers, we know your kids
like being coached by them and it would be great to help them out
on this trip.
