CDO Update, Capital Coast, Tuesday 22 January 2013

Posted by Elyse Robert on Tuesday, 22 January 2013

Hello Clubbies!

Welcome to 2013. Can't believe how quickly January has gone… So much achieved and still more to go!

It's been a very busy season and a huge pat on the back to everyone that has patrolled, instructed, examined and generally done an awesome job over the last few months.

A big congrats to Otaki SLSC for winning the Capital Coast Rescue of the Month for November.

Read all about the awesome work the team did here.

Himatangi (patrolled by Palmerston North SLSC) have had an extrememly intense season, with a fatality and then a near drowing in the same place in the last two weeks!

The team have done a superb job keeping the beach safe and their members supported. You can all be very proud of the work you've done this summer.

Across the rest of the area, so far this season, we have completed:

  • ·         3453 Hours of patrol (19% of the Region's, which includes Taranaki and Hawkes Bay, patrolling hours)
  • ·         61 Rescues (41% of the Regions Rescues)
  • ·         106 First Aid Incidents (43% of the Region's FA's)
  • ·         2928 Preventative Actions (30% of the Region's PA's)
  • ·         7433 People involved in Preventative Actions

Don't forget to get your patrol paper work added to PAM. Be sure to check all your incident forms have been completed and added to your patrol as well.

It's not over yet, so keep up the good work!

Speaking of good work…

The next BP SLSNZ Rescue of the Month will close Feb 5th 2013.

If you or any of your club members have done anything you think worth recognising fill out the nomination form and send to me.

Final Refresher Reminder

Most clubs are on to it, but don't forget all refreshers must be completed and submitted to me by January 31st 2013.

If you're not refreshed you won't be eligible to compete at Nationals.

Sunday 10th February 2013

The last SLA Exam will be held at Otaki Pool and Otaki SLSC Sunday 10th Feb at 9am.

We will also be running a IRB Crew Exam. This will start at 9am at Otaki SLSC.

If you have anyone interested and available for either the SLA or IRB Crew please send me an exam rego form ASAP.

The Road to Nationals…

The sporting season has gone swimmingly (haha, get it?), and we have just two more events left before Oceans '13 and the SLSNZ National Champs in March.

Junior Surf Event #3, Maranui Sunday 3rd February 2013 - Start time 10am and full event programme will be available shortly.

Results from the last, and all Junior Surf events, are on the SLSNZ sport page. Click here (and scroll down to Central Region) for more info.

The last event of the season will be the Capital Coast Champs, Paekakariki Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th February 2013.

This is a great event for all our competitors (U14, U16, U19, U23 and Open and including Boats and Canoes) with medals awarded to the top competitors from each age group.

This event also counts towards the Whitehorse trophy, so be sure to get your clubbies along and get those final points on the board!

The current club points after three events are:

Lyall Bay: 430

Paekakariki: 316

Titahi Bay: 46

Worser Bay: 43

Otaki: 3

Results from Whitehorse #3 (December 22nd at Lyall Bay) are also on the sport page. Click here to see who's topping the events this time round.

Looking for a new challenge?

Outward Bound have again offered a scholarship scheme to Surf Life Saving New Zealand for 2013.

The aim of Outward Bound is to build relationships with community organisations whose mission aligns with that of Outward Bound, and to support them in helping their community; Outward Bound's mission being "better people, better communities, better world".

This is a whole load of fun and something not to be missed (speaking from experience). Get your application to Bradley Simpson by 4pm 22nd February 2013.

More info available here.  Do it!

The Last Word…

The final word goes to Himatangi/Palmerston North SLSC who are very close to demolishing and rebuilding their club house.

The club house and community hall was first built in 1959 and has been host to many different community activities and events.

The rebuild has taken a long five years to get to this point with the majority of the hard yards was done by the Palmerston North SLSC Committee.

Well done team! Looking forward to seeing the new club house in December 2013!

If you have a question about any of the content drop me an email or give me a call.

See you on the beach!
