9 April 2013
A revamped Porirua Grand Traverse attracted 900 fitness addicts
- twice as many as last year - who ran, biked and kayaked around
the city.
"It was a great success," first- time organiser MJ Cook said.
"I'm still buzzing."
This year two new categories were introduced, the mountain bike
and the mountain run, as well as the multisport (run, bike, kayak),
duathlon (bike and run), fun run and youth challenge.
The courses were updated and all events began, transitioned and
finished at Whitireia polytech, which attracted strong crowds and a
great atmosphere, Ms Cook said.
Open solo winners for the multisport were Luke Osborne, of
Hastings, with a time of 3:58.25, and Jill Westenra, of Petone,
with 4:45. Duathlon winners were Newtown's Callum Kennedy, with
3:25 and Jacqui O'Hagan, of Northland, with 4:06.
The mountainbike category was won by Ross Weston, of Crofton
Downs, with 1:32.06 and Palmerston North's Margaret Leyland with
1:44.20.
Mountain run winners were Whitby's Richard Newman, with 1:30.31,
and Jo Ryder with 1:47.35

Porirua man Dave Jones finishes the multisport kayak leg.
