CDO Update - Capital Coast - 18 September 2012

Posted by Elyse Robert on Thursday, 20 September 2012

Hi Everyone

It's been a busy few weeks since I officially took on the CDO role. I've really enjoyed getting out and about and meeting you all.
Thanks for being so supportive and welcoming… Sounds like there are some really great things happening in clubbie land!

First up, few reminders re development opportunities for our club members:

  • The next National Lifeguard Schoolis being held December 14th, 15th and 16th and applications close 31st October. All the details regarding the Advanced Lifeguard Award (achieved after you attend the NLS) can be found here. Get in touch with Brent Harvey to apply for the school.
  • The IRB development weekendis set for October 6th and 7th at Riversdale. This is a great weekend, learning new and refreshing old skills, and giving new drivers and crew-people the opportunity to sit an exam (should the surf play good). See attached flyer for details. Brent Harvey is you go to person for this as well.
  • If you are interested in becoming a Surf Officialthere is a level one course on Sunday October 13th. This course costs nothing to attend is full of practical learning. It's due to start at 9am, with venue TBC. Give me a shout if you'd like to know more.
  • For all the Instructors and Examinersout there we are having two briefing sessions coming up. The first at Levin-Waitere SLSC Saturday September 29th and the second (which all new and current Instructors/Examiners are encouraged to attend) at Paekakariki SLSC Sunday October 28th. Both sessions start at10am and will be facilitated by our Chief Examiner, Jim Warwick. Please let me know who from your club will be attending and in what role i.e. Instructor or Examiner.
  • Don't forget, Summer Staff applications close Friday 21st September - All applications can be made on line here.
  • All courses and events can be found on the Capital Coast Activity Calendar. Print it out and post it at your club or keep it somewhere handy. This is updated regularly with the latest version and date posted at the top of the calendar (the latest is v06).

Jandal Day!

December 7th isn't far away, so now's the time to get thinking about what your clubs would like to do on and leading up to the day.

Communication from SLSNZ will be coming shortly, but in the meantime can you please get back to me with the following, by Monday 1st October:

  • What collateral do you have already, and how much? I.e. Boxes, stickers, jandal key rings, posters etc
  • What events do you have planned leading up to the day - if any?
  • What do you plan to do on the day?
  • What other ideas do you have e.g. Rubber wrist bands

There will be a new website launching soon too. This has a new interactive look and will be a one stop shop for clubs and the general public alike.

Details will be available in the official comm's from SLSNZ.

We Want You!

To be involved in the SLSNZ Pool Champs. We are looking for keen and able bodied clubbies to give officiating a go. We're in need of results keepers and maybe even an MC, so if this sounds like you (or someone you know), please get in touch.
