CDO Update, Capital Coast, Tuesday 16 October 2012

Posted by Elyse Robert on Friday, 19 October 2012

Hello Clubs!

It's getting warmer, the days are longer and the season is very, very quickly approaching! Last weekend we completed the Capital Coast Regional Lifeguard trial in fairly challenging conditions, but all the candidates were up for it.

Thanks to those who came along and toughed it out. Big thank you to the group from Otaki who came down to support and got roped into doing some marking for me. You're all super stars!

All summer staff positions will be announced over the next few weeks, for both Surf Education and the Regional Lifeguard Service.

Training Opportunities

We have some exciting training and development opportunities for you…

  • There is a Patrol Captains workshop on Saturday 27th October at Foxton beach. This is perfect for those budding lifeguards looking to take on a more senior position within the club, or those looking to refresh their current skill set. Fill in the attached form and get it back to me by Tuesday 23rd October.
  • All instructors and examiners are encouraged to come to our next briefing session.  This is at Paekakariki SLSC Sunday 28th October. We will have the chance to go through an exam and discuss what to expect.
  • Sunday 4th November is an IRB Engine workshop at Paekakariki SLSC.  Bring along your club gear and get it prepped for the coming season… Ideal for those starting out with IRB's or IRB officers looking to learn a bit more.
  • Saturday 11th November is the next Into to Surf Coaching course. This will be held at Worser Bay SLSC. Registrations to me by Monday 5th November. Please fill in the attached booking form.

All our courses and events can be found on the activity calendar here.

Events!

  • Our first pre-season "ice breaker" is scheduled for Saturday 27th October atOriental Parade.  It will be a half day event, for board, ski and swimmers. More details available soon.
  • Whitehorse #1-Sunday 18th Novemberat Paekakariki (Boat, canoe and craft). Watch this space!

Patrols

  • All club POMs are due to me by 4pm Friday 19th October.
  • You should have started work on your patrol rosters too. I'd like to see these completed at least two weeks out from your first patrol (November 18th).
  • If you think you may have an issue with completing the minimum patrol period please let me know ASAP.

Refreshers

The 2012/2013 Refresh documents have been developed. I will circulate these to all clubs shortly. Remember if you wish to compete at any events this season you must be refreshed toenter.

This is also a good time to make sure all your club contact information is up to date on the database.

Jandal Day - December 7th

I'm pleased to announce we have appointed Kirsty Doyle (Otaki clubbie and all round lovely person) as our National Appeal Coordinator for the Capital Coast area. Kirsty will be your contact person leading up to the day and has already been in contact with club Jandal Day coordinators.

Welcome on board Kirsty!

There's only 18 days to go until the SLS Work Champs in Adelaide!

Our team has been training hard and we're ready to take on the world!

Check them out on Facebook and show your support! https://www.facebook.com/#!/slsnzhp

Have a great rest of the week and enjoy the long weekend!
