Hi there
Just a wee note to say well done to all the Nippers who took
part at the Carnival on Sunday. The first part of the day was
a bit drawn out so a special award goes to all those who stayed
with us for the day. It was great to see kids taking part in
their first carnival and getting into it.
The first carnival at Worser Bay is always a big shock is those
taking part in swim races for the first time and having to complete
quite big swims in v cold water. We are always very proud of
any kids getting into the water and testing themselves and that's
why Carnivals are good to attend, they can be hard on spectators
but the lessons kids learn from them are immense (even if they
don't realise it at the time, it definitely is character
building).
I know a whole heap of our 10 years old did awesome sea swims
for the first time and whilst I didn't see them all the special
performances I saw which I think deserve a shout out are to James
Dyhrberg and Max Wong who completed their first Diamond races and
Meredith Metcalfe who did so well to complete her first swim and
board races in the 12 yr group.
We had some good results but most importantly I think the kids
had fun J.
Thanks to those who helped sort things at the start of the day
especially to Dawn for doing the numbers and Chris and Jocelyn for
sorting team managers (I think you all have a job for life).
Thanks to those who worked together as team managers and our
coaches Hugh and Crane.
It was great to see all helping put up and take down the tent
and that the blokes took folding instructions so well from
Katie. Tent construction/destruction is a skill you def learn
at surf club. We all need to thank James once again for
trailer packing, driving and unpacking yet again, he is a
star. The event referee was our own Teri and of course lots of
officials were from our club, especially Lynnie, Steve, Ron, thanks
guys! And did you see those great lifeguards on our yellow
boards event guarding, yep they were our helpers again, thanks
Trent, Portia and Ruaan.
Thanks to those who reminded me to sunscreen tops of my feet, I
successfully avoided sunburn, apparently some didn't take note and
some are very quick to dob others in (Marco).
We have Nippers as usual at the club for the next 2 Sundays.
This Saturday we are hosting a big event, the first round of the
NZ Surf Boat Series. Racing starts at 10 am, these can be
amazing races to watch so definitely bring the kids down to see
another aspect of Surf Lifesaving (I'm sure we have loads of future
Boaties out there). We still need a bit of help with BBQ
during the day so if you can help please let me know.
Regards
