Hi Clubbies

 

It's been a very busy last few weeks here on the Capital Coast. 

Our summer staff have applied, trialled and been appointed (Beach Ed Instructors and very soon all Regional Lifeguards), the National Lifeguard School will be held in Taranaki this year (with 13 of the nearly 60 applicants coming from the Central Region), held our first sporting event of the season and have had great attendance at development courses across the area!

Speaking of which… 

Saturday 11th November is the next Into to Surf Coaching course.This will be held at Worser Bay SLSC. Registrations to me ASAP zoe.canvin@surflifesaving.org.nz

Surf Lifeguard Award Exams start this weekend:

  1. Sunday 11th November at Paekakariki- we have 26 new lifeguards registered to attend!
  2. Saturday 24th November at Levin-Waitarere
  3. Sunday 2nd December at Lyall Bay
  4. Tuesday 15th January 2013 at Maranui
  5. Saturday 19th January 2013 at Otaki
  6. Sunday 10th February 2013 venue TBC


All exams start at 9am with the pool assessment completed first. To register candidates for an exam please complete the attached exam registration form.

Capital Coast "Ice Breaker", Saturday 27th October

With a typical blustery Northerly blowing through the event was moved to Worser Bay. 24 competitors braved the wind and chilly waters to test their pre-season training regimes, paddling their way around a 400m course. 

Thanks to everyone who came along on the day - officials, helpers, parents, competitors. Was a great kick start to the season!

New Sport Manual

The new Surf Sport Manual is available for download or purchase. Head to the SLSNZ sport page via www.slsnz.org.nz to down load a copy or log into PAM and order a copy through the SLSNZ shop.

National Events

Registrations are now open for the Surf Boat Seriessport.surflifesaving.org.nz/events/surf-boat-series/

SLSNZ also has information available to Boat Crews that wish to try out to represent New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman Surf Boat Challenge in February 2013 sport.surflifesaving.org.nz/high-performance/welcome/

Patrols/ Refreshers

You should have started work on your patrol rosters by now. I'd like to see these completed and back to me by November 18th.

If you think you may have an issue with completing the minimum patrol period please let me know ASAP.

The 2012/2013 Refresh documents have been circulated.

Remember if you wish to compete at any events this season you must be refreshed toenter.

This is also a good time to make sure all your club contact information is up to date on the database.

Administrators - Please take the time to update all club info on PAM and on your own website/Facebook page.

Stolen Gear

In early October 2012 the following equipment was stolen from the Worser Bay Life Saving Club gear shed:

 

  • 2 x CHD (purple top and white base) carbon fiber 10'6" competition boards are near-new and in very good condition 
  • 2 x CHD 215mm wing blade carbon fiber ski paddles
  • 1 x hose reel with hose & fittings


Worser Bay SLSC will pay a cash reward for the safe return of this kit

Final Word…

The final word goes to Marty McDowell from Titahi Bay SLSC and to Emma Roberts from Lyall Bay SLSC.


Marty recently won the Porirua Sports Person of the year Award and Emma was awarded the Wellington East Girls College Sports Person of the Year.
