Parents and Coaching

We always need help to run our Nipper programmes. All our coaches are volunteers who welcome any parent help to make sure our sessions run smoothly. Here are some suggestions at how you can help at Paekakariki:

  • Stay with your child's group and be prepared to rake sand, place flags, move cones, or get into the water to help kids, let their coach know you are there to help
  • Ensure each child returning from the beach has some gear or equipment in their hands (regardless of what equipment they used)
  • Help with washing down equipment and putting it away in club house or gear shed.
  • Volunteer for BBQ duty
  • Encourage your child to thank coaches and lifeguards each week
  • Become a Surf Coach (more info below)

At carnivals:

  • Ensure your child arrives on time
  • Help with marquee set up, warm up, corralling kids into age groups
  • Assist with team manager duties (one needed in each age and gender group)
  • Help cart equipment between arenas, especially helping kids to carry the larger Boards (but still encourage kids to carry and return equipment)
  • At the end of the day, help with dropping the tent and re-packing the trailer with our equipment, and rubbish tidy up
